Office fit out solutions from Quipex

The client

We had worked for Springfield Business Papers for some time, having maintained the electrics in their old building, so when we heard they purchasing new premises in an industrial estate in the suburbs of Bristol, we offered them our services in the installation of electrics at their new site.

The brief

Springfield needed their new premises to be returned to 80% warehouse space.  They had a main building contractor and required us to work in partnership with them to provide a suitable solution to the whole project.

The challenge

A site visit to the building, which was previously an old Kleeneze call centre, was around 80,000ft² of office space fitted with raised floors and suspended ceilings throughout. A further investigation revealed that the building was an old warehouse with 10-12metre high ceiling hangars and specialist access equipment had to be brought in!

To further complicate the project, the strip out took a lot longer than expected, the schedule was very tight given the size of the building and the installation of a 10metre fire protected partition made the project much more difficult.

Doing the job

Springfield’s consultant specified difficult conditions to the electrical installation; For example, metal conduit was specified for the high-level lighting in the warehouse, but this would prove expensive for the client and take much longer than the specified six weeks to install. Quipex’s solution was FP200 type cabling, which made the need for metal conduits redundant while keeping costs and timelines in check.

Any problems that arose were overcome through negotiations with the main contractor and the project finished just on time, enabling the company to be able to move in over a bank-holiday weekend.
